Meet Me

Hey! Welcome to my blog, the comfy, cozy living room of Kricia Morris Photography. My name is Kricia, and this is the place where you will learn more about my business, my current clients and my life in general. My family, my friends and my career have blessed me with an amazing life! I love taking pictures, Starbucks eggnog chai lattes, the beach, my iPhone, twitter and books of all varieties. I can't wait to meet you, we're going to have a great time!

Meet My Photography

Besides my son, photography is probably the single most amazing thing that has come into my life. I LOVE my job and sharing that passion with people gives me a purpose and direction in my life. My approach to every appointment is to find out what makes you unique, special and fabulously amazing. I want everyone to be comfortable and to have FUN in front of the lens. Everyone has a story inside of them. My goal is to find that story and give it back to you in the form of images that you'll carry with you for a lifetime.

A Day in the Life | Hawaii Portrait Photographer

A few months ago I came across a concept online that intrigued me.  I discovered a group of photographers who would pick a theme and develop a monthly blog post about their interpretation…and then link to each other to allow their readers to continue to explore the theme through different eyes.  This really stuck in my mind as something that I would love to be a part of, and with the help of some fellow military spouse photographers, we’ve created our own blog circle.  Since military wives come from all walks of life and all types of backgrounds we decided that our first post should really be a getting to know you style interpretation.  What makes us click?  What makes us get up in the morning and continue on with our days?  What is it about being a wife, a mother, a military supporter, a photographer that makes us uniquely us?  I hope that you enjoy this new concept as much as we are.  If you’re interested in joining our blog circle, please contact me, we would LOVE to have you.  Continue to check back for our monthly themes and photo projects, who knows what we’ll come up with!

So…without further ado, here’s a day in MY life.  Please note that the majority of the images from this post will be courtesy of my most used camera: my iPhone!  My name is Kricia Morris and I am a lifestyle photographer currently based in Oahu, HI.  My husband serves in the United States Marine Corps and impresses me every day with his strength, dedication and drive to work in service to our country.  We have a 6 year old son named Warren who is in 1st grade at Mokapu Elementary, and he is my reason for living…every breath that little boy takes makes me love him just a little bit more.  My typical morning starts around 6:30 AM with a cat on my chest and Warren jumping into my bed for a quick hug before demanding to know what’s for breakfast!  It amazes me how he can go from sleeping to awake in about .27 seconds flat!

From there I drop him off at school where I serve as the PTA President.  My son likes to joke to people that I run the school.  It’s far from the truth, but I’ll take all the credit I can get in a 6 year old’s eyes!

Then it’s typically time for a morning workout.  This past week I started the Insanity program with Shaun T.  I’m convinced that the people that are smiling through these workouts are truly insane.  I’ll be kind and NOT share a picture of me during this process :)

After my workout it’s time for my office day to start.  Typically I keep office hours between about 9:30 AM and 5:30 PM.  There are lots of phonecalls, text messages, emails, FB posts, client requests, portrait orders, editing…you get the picture.  Here’s a typical view at my desk!

Very helpful, right?  I swear, she’s my hardest critic.

At night, it’s either time with my family or a portrait session.  One thing that we’ve truly been trying to do a lot more of is enjoy the beautiful scenery that we are privileged to view every day on this magical island.  Here are just a few of the sites that we see fairly regularly.

Last but not least, it’s some quality time with the husband after my kiddo heads to bed.  Being married a Marine isn’t the easiest job in the world, but I truly wouldn’t have it any other way.  I love my husband Matthew with all my heart…even if he is a little strange ;)   PS, have I mentioned that he’s an amazing cook?

I hope that you’ve enjoyed this little peek into our lives.  Check back next month and see what topic we come up with next!  For now though, visit my friend Becky Williams and check out a day in her life as well.  Mahalo everyone!

Kibler Retirement | Hawaii Military Photographer

Undoubtedly the most beneficial aspect of being a military family is the connection that you are able to forge with others around you.  In the three years that my husband has been stationed here in Hawaii on MCBH Kaneohe Bay he has made several such connections with Marines and Sailors that he respects, trusts and truly likes.  I was honored to have the opportunity to take part in the retirement ceremony of one of these men, Gunnery Sgt. Kibler, earlier this year as he said goodbye to his time in the Corps and looked forward to a new life in the civilian world.  Thank you for allowing me to share in such a memorable occasion!

The Newton’s | Oahu Beach Portrait Photographer

Through the many years of owning my own business I’ve been lucky to meet some amazing families.  We’ve shared laughs, stories, memories, smiles and bloopers, each one holding a special place in my heart.  I have to say however, that Jen and her family will always stand out to me for their connections, their hearty laughter, and their zeal and love for life.  I hope that you enjoy!

Tommy and Lindsey – The Preview | Waikiki Hawaii Wedding Photographer

Planning a wedding is a universal dream of little girls around the world.  I was privileged to see the personal dream of Lindsey’s wedding to Tommy come true before my very eyes on April 12, 2012 in a vision of cream and blush.  The many details of this wedding blew me away, but what truly stood out to me was the connection and love shared by this beautiful couple.  I hope that you enjoy this preview of their special day, there will be LOTS more to come!

Ao, honua, ‘aina | Hawaii Landscape Photography

For the past couple of weeks I’ve found myself needing to slow down…to rest…to smell the roses so to speak.  I find that on a daily basis I’m so caught up with what’s next, where’s my to do list, where do I have to be, who has emailed me, that I can’t take the time to be me.  This isn’t a good feeling.  It’s stressful, it’s scary, it’s de-motivating, and as of now…it’s stopping.  I love my clients, and I love my job and that is not going to change.  BUT…I think it’s time I start to love my life again too!  It’s time to be a better mom, a better wife, a better person, and a better artist.  It’s time to remember to let go sometimes and just relax.  It’s time for all of us to remember to stop and just enjoy the beauty around us.  Life is worth living, feeling, and experiencing.  Get out and use your senses today.  Happy Monday everyone :)
